Investments at Work in Edmonton, AB!

McKernan Baptist Church achieved a significant milestone. They paid off their loan in full this past summer! CIF partnered with McKernan Baptist Church in 2013 as they sought to expand the facilities the church had outgrown. CIF funded their construction and conversion to a term loan.

The church was founded 1951 with a small group of believers meeting for worship in the chapel of Taylor College and Seminary. They are located in central Edmonton, Alberta and conveniently located adjacent to the University of Alberta Hospital and the 40,000 student University of Alberta.

McKernan Baptist Church has always felt a strong calling to minister to college and university students, in line with the roots of the church. Today, they still serve through their weekly International Student Ministry, where international students and their families meet in their facilities. They continue to have a strong intergenerational ministry. They also have a strong focus on developing interns and new emerging leaders.

The new building enhancements CIF partnered on included an expanded foyer, a new hospitality area, a fully equipped kitchen, increased and accessible washroom facilities, consolidated children and youth space that offers increased safety and security, and a new chapel with breakout rooms for small to mid-sized groups for teaching and learning opportunities.

CIF had the chance to visit earlier this year, spring of 2025, for a Pastor’s Connection event at McKernan Baptist Church. The expanded foyer hosted around 40-50 pastors and church staff for a time of worship, connection and lunch! The beautiful windows created a sunny and warm atmosphere. The kitchen served up some authentic Ukrainian food prepared by families that fled the war. Not to mention, the expanded indoor facilities are even more appreciated during winter!

We are thankful for McKernan Baptist Church’s ministry partnership and the opportunity to help in their expansion. However, this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our wonderful investors! Thank you for your support, dedication and prayers!
