A church family has found a place to call home!
Liberty Baptist Church was founded in 1977 and had been meeting in an old brick building on Main Street since 1988. The old building, which was built in 1930, had several limitations that the church worked around for decades. There was no parking lot, so our members would find their parking on the streets surrounding the church. The restroom capacity was minimal, which forced people to patiently wait in line. And the one classroom and one office were used above and beyond their limited potential. We wanted our focus to always center around the Word of God and not the externals of our property, but at the same time, we realized that the issues with our old property were becoming a stumbling block to those who wanted to be in church with us.
Our church started praying and looking for a new property, which led us into a three-year search. We are not a large community, so “church-like” buildings that meet our needs do not come on the market very often. Finally, our new property surfaced on the market for sale. It was far above our price-range, but we began to pray and consider it. Over time, we watched the price decline more and more. We believe now that God was holding it for us.
We reached out to Church Investors Fund at the recommendation of a pastor friend who had been helped by CIF and said they were good to work with. The process was seamless, and we were glad to have a lender with a heart to get behind the Lord’s work. What we didn’t know was how much of a roller coaster ride our purchase process would be due to some unforeseen events on our end, including a buyer for our old property that ended up backing out. Thankfully, CIF stuck with us through the whole ride.
We had our first service in our new property on June 1st, 2025, which happened to be our church’s 48th anniversary. There was a great spirit of thankfulness for what God has provided for us. Instead of kids Sunday School classes being divided by a curtain, they were able to have their own rooms. Sunday School teachers were excited to be able to decorate their own classrooms. Senior citizens were thankful to be able to park in a parking stall rather than on a curb down the street. We were able to park our church van in the lot, rather than on the street where it had been crashed into twice in the last few years as it was parked. When we put our new sign up, we caused a bit of stir in the community as people quickly realized the funeral home was now home to Liberty Baptist Church.
During the second week of June, we had our Vacation Bible School. Normally, we had to limit our closing program and awards ceremony due to capacity restraints on the old property. But this year, for the first time, we were able to have a full program on the final night of VBS, which was exciting for the church and kids.
There are challenges that come with any move like this, but every time we drive on the property and enter the building, we have much to be thankful for. We pray that God would help us to use what He has given us to more effectively impact His kingdom.
Ephesians 3:20-21 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
