As summer seems to fly by here in Saskatchewan, we appreciate the season but also think of those whose communities and livelihoods have been impacted by the wildfires in the northern part of our province. Local fire departments from some of our churches’ communities have been helping fight the fires and we want to uplift in prayer all those affected and those helping in multiple ways.

Our region consists of 13 churches that are spread across the southern part of the province, mainly from the east to the central area. Like other regions, our churches can be similar and yet very diverse in nature; be it urban or rural, intergenerational, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. Each local church’s community has distinctive challenges and compelling opportunities to live out and share the good news of Jesus.

I have had the privilege to pastor in the Saskatchewan association for almost twenty years and now as regional minister for the past eight months. It is a pleasure to travel to our churches and connect with the local congregations and pastors. Each church has unique aspects in its makeup and the setting they are in.

Together, the Saskatchewan association’s focus has been to assist, support and hold one another accountable in making disciples of Jesus Christ and to facilitate the ministries we do collectively. We believe that our churches can be on mission locally but there are some beautiful things that God calls us to do together that we cannot do alone.

One of the key actions that our association does together is operate a camp. We have seen growth in the camp ministry in many ways over the last two decades and our financial and volunteer network spans our family of churches and beyond. We are incredibly excited to be in the construction stage of a new dining hall facility, and this has been a reality that many have worked hard to see come to this point. We are thankful for the support of this project by our donors and the partnership we have with CIF for financial backing to finish the project to completion.

Our prayer is to discern the next steps that God is calling us into as an association. We want to help our churches move to new levels of health and growth while engaging our communities, develop emerging leaders within our churches, and actively identify new neighbourhoods and communities in which to multiply and serve.
