Renfrew Baptist Church is a symbol of faith, perseverance, and community. Located in the heart of Calgary, Alberta, and serving a major metropolitan community of around 1.4 million people, Renfrew Baptist boasts a rich history dating back to its founding in 1958. Name after the street it resides on, Renfrew Baptist Church seeks to minister to its neighbors. Amid the passage of time, the church has remained steadfast in its mission to bring the Gospel to Calgary. Many of its original members are still an active part of the congregation today, reflecting the unwavering dedication of those who helped plant the church so many years ago.

Their commitment to their mission wasn’t the only thing that hadn’t changed in over sixty years—their building remained substantially the same, as well. As Calgary has grown quickly and extensively over the last few decades, the church felt the need to revitalize its space to better serve the Renfrew neighborhood. Hoping to draw more people to the church and expand on its legacy of hospitality, the church wanted to create a space where friends and families could gather and fellowship, and that would provide a safe, welcoming environment to raise their children.

However, before they could make any significant changes to their facilities, the church needed to find a way to fund the project. Through its partnership with Church Investors Fund, Renfrew Baptist Church was able to transform its vision into reality. Church Investors Fund not only provided financial assistance but also played a pivotal role in helping the church overcome obstacles during the renovation process. Council Chair Jamie Kotlewski praised Church Investors Fund for their unwavering commitment and valuable guidance throughout the entire project, even in the face of extenuating circumstances.

After months of meticulous planning and hard work, the church underwent a series of extensive renovations to enhance its overall functionality, safety, and appeal. The upgrades included compliance with health codes, greater commercial capacity to accommodate fellowship activities, and improved building durability, reducing the need for frequent repairs and ensuring a lasting ministry space. Furthermore, the sound and lighting systems were both upgraded to create a more engaging and immersive worship experience.

After renovating its space, Renfrew Baptist Church has experienced significant growth. Many community members have taken an interest in visiting the church to witness the changes for themselves and have ended up staying for the welcoming environment and fellowship. One woman, in particular, shared her testimony of how Renfrew Baptist Church has positively impacted her life. She credits the church as the place where she first began her faith journey, which has helped her find a sense of community and belonging. Today, the church has an average attendance that is up nearly 50% since the renovation was completed.

Jamie Kotlewski expressed deep gratitude for God’s faithful provision for the church, including the partnership with Church Investors Fund. According to Kotlewski, “Church Investors Fund allows churches like ours to obtain the necessary funding to grow, build upon the future, serve within our community, and show God’s love to our neighbors. Without CEIF, it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to do this on our own or with conventional financing.” Thanks to the ministry of Church Investors Fund and the faithful generosity of its investors who sow daily into God’s Kingdom, Renfrew Baptist Church and many others have the opportunity to breathe new life into their ministries, give back to their communities, and expand the Kingdom of God.
